LAS VEGAS – Feb. 9, 2018 – PRLog — UNLV’s #GirlsInSTEM Day will take place on the University of Las Vegas Campus this week. The event is hosted by the student-led UNLV Scientista Foundation in partnership with the Clark County School District (CCSD). The UNLV Scientistas are a local chapter of The Scientista Foundation, a global network for campus women in S.T.E.M. The Foundation provides programs, workshops, panels, and other networking and social events to help empower and encourage young women in S.T.E.M. fields.

The event is happening in the Thomas T. Beam Engineering Complex (TBE) A107 Lecture Hall on the UNLV campus Friday, February 9th from 9:00am to 2:00pm. High School girls from Las Vegas will attend a full day of programming including S.T.E.M. workshops, a video about female inventors, raffle prizes, lunch, snacks, and a keynote address.

Christina Aldan will be delivering the keynote for this event. She is an international speaker, trainer, and digital advertising consultant and co-founder of The FierceWomen Project. She will be speaking about the creative process and how creative problem-solving influences all aspects of our work.

Said Snehal Bhakta, of the CCSD, “We are extremely excited to have speaker Christina Aldan as our keynote speaker for the #GirlsinSTEM Day hosted by the UNLV Scientistas. Knowing how she overcame the challenge of poverty to build a successful career for herself will be so inspiring to these young women from West Prep Academy hoping to achieve the same. We welcome Christina’s unique perspective and insight on being a creative person in STEM and Technology career fields.”

Anyone who wants to support the UNLV Scientista Foundation should check out their website and join one of their upcoming volunteer events or committees. Their next general meeting is Wednesday February 21st. Visit https://unlvscientista.com/ for more information.
